Series: Praying the Psalms: Anchoring Ourselves in God’s word
Text: Psalm 2 & Psalm 1
Preacher: Brent McCrory

Psalm 1 & Psalm 2 have both been called “pre-prayer” psalms, meaning they help to orient us toward the psalter (book of Psalms) as a whole. Both of them contain contrasts. Both of them make audacious claims. In fact, the contrasts and audacious claims appear foolish in light of how things “work” in the world. Perhaps this is where trust (faith) comes in.

One thing we clearly see at the beginning of Psalms is that our reality and God’s reality are different. In light of this, prayer is an act of defiance against the ways of the world. And at times this defiance means we need to deny ourselves in order to purposefully ponder the things of God. Hmmm, that sounds a bit like Jesus, does it not?
