Senior Minister

Jesus of Nazareth – aka Jesus Christ

New Life is God’s Church (Acts 20:28).  Jesus is the Good Shepherd (Jn10:11) who died to reconcile all things to God (Jn3:16; Rom8:20-22).  The Holy Spirit empowers us for ministry (1Pet4:10).

Yet why do we claim Jesus as our “Senior Minister”?  Peter says, “And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory” (1Pet5:4).  The word translated as “Chief Shepherd” can just as easily be translated as “Senior Minister”.

Many times the Senior Minister is seen as “the guy” who is in charge of a congregation.  We desire that person to be none other than Jesus.  He is the example our eldersstaff, and deacons, seek to emulate.
