What We're About...Continued

Enhancing God’s reputation by reflecting Jesus in the world through relationships, good works, and worship.

  • We derived our Purpose Statement from our Core Values.  We formulated our Core Values from the words of Jesus in John 17.  Here is a portion of what was on Jesus’ heart the night He was betrayed.

John 17:15-23

  • 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth. 20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.

When we say “enhancing God’s reputation” we mean we want people to get a more accurate view of God.  In Bible words this is known as “glorifying God”.

When we say “by reflecting Jesus” we mean we are to imitate His character.  Jesus most accurately revealed the Father to us.  Through Jesus’ life we see God is concerned for the salvation of all people (which is possible when accurate views of God are formed).

When we say “in the world” we mean where we live.  As Christians we are not to separate ourselves from the world.  If we did that, no one would be left to share the Good News of redemption.

When we say “through relationships, good works, and worship” we mean these are necessary aspect of a Christian’s life.

  • God created us for relationships.  We cannot survive without them.
  • We are not saved by our good works.  However, we are saved for them.
  • Our worship is more than Sunday mornings; it is our entire life.  Therefore if we are not involved in relationships and doing good works – our worship is lacking.
